Hey people! I hope there are some of you, who teach german as a second language and possibly not in an english speaking country. Or maybe some of you take part in german classes and have positive experiences in it.

My situation is: I startet working in a primary school. I want to make lessons interesting, I want to focus the attention of my pupils on my lessons. The problem is, that most of the children don't want to learn german, as they have more hours in english and they find german to complicated in compare with english (unfortunetaly I think exactely the same, german IS difficult).

I try to look for some interesting stuff, like books, pictures, songs, videos, posters etc. but there are loeads of it for english classes and nothing for german.

My questione is: do you know some good websites, publishing houses, or methods for GERMAN language? Do you use some alternative methods of teaching languages, have you tested them?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Amberita

Honestly, I believe that it's all in the mind. English has a lot more exceptions, and hardly any writing rules. Have to learn every word by heart, while German is a very logic language, with only exceptions when a mistake is possible. If you start from Polish, you even have the cases already.
Try some German music or films.

Dear Deng,

you are right, everything is in the mind. The problem is, that english is everywhere, and in the school - if a child has 5 lessons of english and 2 of german than it subconsciously feels that english is more important. German is than just something that makes one confused.

Believe me, German is very hard for Poles. Yes, it has the cases, but Polish has 7 cases, while German 4 - it's quite confusing. The worst thing of all are the Genera. We even have the saying "If it wasn't der, die, das, we would be German - all of us" (something like that Wink )

Well, I keep looking for some interestin stuff.

Thanks anyway!

See if they are up for chatting or contacting through language websites. A good one: http://www.livemocha.com
or mylanguageexchange.com

hi Im one of the German learner. Ive already studied German at the Uni for 4 years (1 year in Germany). Although Ive studied for so many years, my German is not sooo good, because it has really difficult grammer and too many vocabularies... but Im enjoying learning it because I have many friends in Germany. To talk with them I HAVE TO learn hard and das macht mir echt Spass! hehe
if you have Chance, you can invite some German to your lessons. if your pupils talk with them, perhaps they will get interested in German...but I know that it is really difficult to do so... hmm..
I have another idea! Im reading MOMO (written by Michael Ende) as a learning of German. The story is really cool and with it i can enjoy learning German. To remember many words makes me sick but I can continue to do it because it is really fun. As a textbook or so you can use it too :-)
I hope my idea will be good for you! hehe
